Play by Play

Three Things

1. I can’t get over this. Debra Rapaport is AMAZEBALLS, mkay? Her hats are splendid. Simply splendid I say!!

2. Autre Ne Veut

Have I already posted this song? If so, sorry I’m not sorry. LISTEN AGAIN. It’s the weirdest thing, the singer’s voice kind of annoys me and I don’t think he’s very good live, but my shoulders start popping every time I listen to this album. I can’t get enough. I just called you up to get the play by play by play by play…

3. Amber Riley and Derek Hough on DWTS.

I HATE reality shows/celebrity competitions/whatever but I get SO MUCH JOY from watching these two dance. I tried watching two of Corbin Bleu’s performances and NOPE. There is no there there. I also saw some bits of them “behind the scenes” or whatever and I repeat: I HATE REALITY SHOWS ZOMG. Anyway, what is up with the uber touchy feelies going on with him and his choreographer? The constant draping on each other and linking fingers when they’re holding hands…wait they’re holding hands? Okay, ya’ll. Simmer down. Anyway. I dare not try to watch anyone else’s cuz barf. Back to Amber and Derek: she can move like whoa and he is an amazing choreographer. Together they taste great! Their freestyle performance? WUUUUUUUUT. Their Charleston performance (both of them, actually)?! WUUUUUT. THEIR PASO DOBLE PERFORMANCE?! WUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT.

Say. What.

Jack, where’d the sun go?

SAM_0862Fossil cardigan, thrifted Laura Ashley dress (Little Edie’s), thrifted Brahmin bag (Rerun), HUE tights, Born brogues

Rain. It falls again. But hooray for tights!! Because shaving my legs is such a bore.

I found this purse at Rerun the other day. I haven’t been in there in ages and I went in on a whim, since I was in the area. I’m so happy I did! I’ve been wanting a black satchel, and this one is in such good condition and was a steal – $12! The leather is so soft and supple. I kind of like buying old purses because they’re already broken in and I don’t have to feel guilty about throwing them onto sticky counters.

Here are some Brahmin bags that I am drooling over:

Jen Burgundy

SAM_0688Thrifted tunic (Little Edie’s), UO jeans, Chie Miharas (Ebay)

I found this really soft, great oxblood/maroon/burgundy tunic/shirt/muumuu thing at Little Edie’s the other day. It is SERIOUSLY the most comfortable thing ever (besides my Chies and my Campers, both of which make my feet feel as if they’re walking on air. Gotta love Ebay!).

I have a feeling I’ll be wearing this outfit often.

Seek thee out the diamond in the rough

So. I recently saw on Facebook that my favorite shop Little Edie’s Five and Dime was closing in a month. “Of course!” I wailed to Andy. See, I had just been telling him THE DAY BEFORE that every time I find a diamond in the rough, a perfect shop, it’s snatched away from me ruthlessly by THIS GUY:

Dude. Relax.

Nah, not Jafar. Maybe the sands of time?

Whatever/Whoever it is, stop it!

Anyway, January was to be their last month open and I told Andy, “So I basically have to go there every day and buy all of the things. I HAVE to.” He nodded, understanding my plight.

I dropped by yesterday preparing to find goodness as usual. I asked the woman who was wheeling out the dollar bin, “You’re open, right?” Because I was not leaving WITHOUT MY MAGIC LAMP. She smiled sweetly and said yes and I chuckled maniacally and said, “Fantastic.”

I got to work. Looked at some scarves. Checked out some oxfords, looked at the coats, some suspenders. Went to the dress rack, held my breath and found it.

This is what I’m saying.

As I was checking out, I told the woman at the register/iphone that I was so sad that they were closing, etc. She was, by the way, wearing one of the cutest dresses I’d ever seen: full skirted and multicolored with a lace overlay and DIVINE. She told me it was from Topshop via Nordstrom which I will have to check out. ANYWAY. The woman who had wheeled out the dollar bin was also there, and she perked up when I described my sadness and said, “Oh! Meet the new owner! Little Edie’s is staying open!” and I just kind of. um. SQUEALED. It turns out she was Penelope, the former owner, and she was so tickled pink by my enthusiasm for the shop that she pulled me into a hug and kissed my cheek and when I told her, “I’m sorry, I just love this place.” she said, “This place loves YOU.”

HOORAY! Little Edie’s lives to see another day!

And how about this dress?! I can’t get over it. It didn’t have a tag, but I did find a Fruit of the Loom copyright on the fabric. Andy said, “Cool, your dress is made out of underwear!”

Amazeballs. I’m off to go stare at it some more.

‘Tis the season

Happy Holidays!!!

We’re just mad about plaid, how about you?

I’ve been wearing the same pair of sweats for the past week; the whole family came down with the flu and it hasn’t been pretty. Meh-ry Christmas, am I right? Seriously though, it was horrible. Fevers, coughing, sneezing, chills. Not the way I pictured spending my vacation.

We’re finally on the mend though. Thank you GOD.

And hey, check out this dress I found at Little Edie’s last week.

Thrifted (Little Edie’s) dress, Target cardigan, HUE tights, Chie Mihara mary janes

It isn’t perfect, there’s some weird stitching on top and there are a couple of stains but ARE YOU KIDDING with the cut? The fabric? I’LL TAKE IT.

We have a match

I was a bit too excited about pairing up this shirt and dress. I kept telling Andy, “Cute, RIGHT?!” And he said (a little too casually for my tastes), “Yeah, it looks good.” And then I said, “You mean it doesn’t look as good as other outfits I’ve put together?!” And then he rolled his eyes.

Mad Woman

Look what I found at Little Edie’s for twelve dollars.

You know how you see a dress on a hanger and it looks unassuming but for some reason you grab it and take it to the dressing room to try it on and you start hyperventilating while you’re pulling up the zipper because it’s made of so much win you can’t breathe?

And then you get kind of cocky and belligerent and start talking to yourself in the mirror like: “Huh? What’s that?! THOUGHT YOU KNEW.”

Oh, that’s just me? Okay.

So, so pretty. Look at that collar! And the sleeves! It came with a belt too, but it doesn’t hold well so I replaced it with this little black number for now.

I feel so Mad Men when I wear it.

Fossil cardigan, thrifted dress (Little Edie’s Five and Dime), thrifted belt (Bombshell vintage), HUE tights, Nicole Mary Janes

In conclusion, HUZZAH.

Ma Nature’s Lyrical

Thrifted shirt (Little Edie’s), Anthropologie dress, Fossil pumps, Thrifted gladstone bag (Ebay)

Lately I can’t get enough of flower patterns and these Fossil flora pumps and the obvious reason is because of the season. Because…Ma Nature’s lyrical, with her yearly miracle. SPRING!

Those crazy kids. Psst. You guys. Ephraim is totally checking out Dorcas. Watch out Benjamin!
Maybe I should have a Seven Brides for Seven Brothers interlude in every post? You think?
Anyway, I found this shirt at Little Edie’s and I must say it compliments my color block dress well, especially since I’ve never felt comfortable with the top half. Actually, I need to take the shirt and the dress in to my seamstress, both are a bit of an odd fit.

I wore this the other day:J. Crew shirt… yeah, you’ve seen it all before and will see it again. I would talk about how nice the weather’s been lately but then I’d just sound like a broken record (spring, spring, spring!). But I’m really enjoying having brown sons for a minute!

What else? A lot of playdates and A LOT of book reading. A lot of cookie eating. A lot of changes: my babies are disappearing before my very eyes, I can’t get over how Z will start kindergarten in the fall. I’m pretty nervous about it actually, so I try not to think about it too much. Mad is loving puzzles lately, and Rio is *this close* to crawling and gets frustrated when he can’t make his body do what he wants it to. After a while of dragging himself all over the place he uses his raptor shriek to let me know that he’s done doing all of the work so could I please hold him under his arms while he lurches around to his heart’s content? Thanks Mom!

Gypsy Girl

Headscarf: Macy’s? (Hella old) Hoodie: Dizzie’s in SLO. Tank: J.Crew. Dress: Goodwill. Socks: Sock Dreams. Boots: Gee WaWa.

I was totally expecting to be asked how far along I was in this dress. Comfortable, yes. Flattering? Not so much.

Hope you all had a good Easter!

We took the boys out to Sauvie Island on Saturday and looked at a pig and some roosters and chickens. I really enjoyed looking at the pig because it was the biggest f%cking thing I’ve ever seen. Mad was a wreck the majority of the time. He can’t even deal with finding my hair on the floor at home (“MAMA! What’s this?!”) so he was pretty much finished after slipping in the mud, which there was A LOT OF. “MAMA! Fix it!” was cried out between sobs. From now on, double rainboots all the way (yep, I’m a dork). So we took off the boys’ pants and shoes and drove around the island and saw some emus. Those things are creepy.

Yesterday the sun continued to shine so we went to the park and walked through swarms of ant drones but I still didn’t want to go inside ever. And then last night Andy and I finished watching Cowboys and Aliens. It was okay. Daniel Craig will never not be a badass.

So why does Mounds have to be gamble chocolate? I bought a Mounds bar after a long drought and I opened it the way that Charlie opened that chocolate bar that his grandparents chipped in and bought for him for his birthday? Like: Maybe? Maybe this time? Delicious, smooth chocolate? Maybe? But NOOOOOOOOO.

Looked kind of like this:

That’s some ashy chocolate.

Doctor, Doctor

Thrifted coat (Little Edie’s), Fossil cardigan and dress, Sock Dreams tights and socks, Gee WaWa boots, self-made monocle necklace, doctor bag (Etsy)

I’ve bought three doctor bags in the past two weeks. Two of them need a little work done but I couldn’t just leave them there. Andy’s eyebrows are now permanently at hairline level, “Another one?” he asks politely.

Last weekend I found this at Little Edie’s:

And this beauty is on it’s way to me from Bordeaux (Etsy):

Sigh. I just can’t get enough.
